Do new energy vehicles have to use charging posts?

Whether a new energy vehicle must use a charging station depends on the type of vehicle. Generally speaking, new energy vehicles can be divided into pure electric vehicles (BEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCEV). The charging requirements for these models are different:

  1. Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) : Battery electric vehicles rely entirely on batteries for power and therefore need to be charged regularly. Using a charging station is the main way to charge these vehicles, whether it is a private charging station installed at home or a charging station in a public place. Therefore, a charging station is almost necessary for battery electric vehicles.
  2. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) : These vehicles have a battery and an internal combustion engine. They can be charged at a charging station and can also be driven using the internal combustion engine. Although it is not absolutely necessary to use a charging station, it is more economical and environmentally friendly to use it frequently if you want to fully utilize its electric driving capabilities.
  3. Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) : Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle is mainly powered by hydrogen. This type of vehicle does not require a traditional electric charging station, but requires a dedicated hydrogen filling station.

In general, for the vast majority of new energy vehicles, especially pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, the use of charging piles is an important part of driving them. Although not absolutely necessary, in order to ensure the continuity and convenience of driving, it is recommended to use charging piles where feasible.
