Introduction to DC-Fast Charging Piles for Electric Vehicles

Introduction of DC Charging Pile

DC electric vehicle charging station, commonly known as “fast charging”, is a power supply device that is fixedly installed outside the electric vehicle and connected to the AC power grid. It can provide DC power for the power battery of the non-onboard electric vehicle. The input voltage of the DC charging pile adopts three-phase four-wire AC380V±15%, frequency 50Hz, and the output is adjustable DC power, which directly charges the power battery of the electric vehicle. Since the DC charging pile adopts a three-phase four-wire power supply, it can provide sufficient power, and the output voltage and current adjustment range is large, which can meet the requirements of fast charging.

Technical requirements for DC charging piles

a) Charging pile power input voltage: three-phase four-wire 380VAC±15%, frequency 50Hz±5%;

b) Charging piles should meet the charging requirements

c) The charging pile outputs direct current, and the output voltage meets the battery standard requirements of the charging object;

d) The maximum output current meets the 1C charging requirement of the battery type of the charging object and is backward compatible;

e) Charging methods include regular and fast charging. Regular charging takes 5 hours, while fast charging takes 1 hour (selectable for different battery types).

f) Realize intelligent IC management;

g) Each charging pile is equipped with an operator for users to select charging methods and provide operation guidance, and displays the battery status of electric vehicles and user IC card tariff information to achieve unmanned management;

h) The charging pile interface should comply with the relevant provisions of the DC charging interface in GB Electric Vehicle Conductive Charging Interface (Provisional);

i) The charging pile communication interface adopts the CAN communication interface, and the communication protocol is implemented in accordance with the provisions of the GB Communication Protocol between Electric Vehicle Battery Management System and Non-onboard Charger (Provisional) (the charging object is a lithium battery electric vehicle);

k) The charging pile should monitor the battery status and automatically adjust the charging curve, charging current and charging voltage according to the battery temperature and voltage;

l) The charging pile adopts forced air cooling;

m) The protection level of the charging pile complies with the IP54 requirement of GB 4208-1993 Enclosure Protection Level (IP Code);

Introduction to DC/fast charging piles for electric vehicles In today’s market, the price of DC charging piles is obviously higher than that of AC charging piles. This is because the production cost of DC power supply is a bit more expensive. There are currently three types of shells for electric vehicle charging piles: wall-mounted electric vehicle charging piles, floor-standing electric vehicle charging piles, and handheld electric vehicle charging piles.
